July Aug 07 Prayer Letter
The Urling Family

 July / August 2007

And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

Luke 19:4

There were at least 25 Zacchaeus’ that climbed up into a tree to hear about Jesus on June 4th in San Jose a small pueblo about 6 miles west of Bermejillo, Durango.  Those 25 and about 175 more heard a clear presentation of the gospel (many for the first time in their lives) and I am excited to report that the majority of those present prayed and asked Jesus to save them!

Many people ask “Aren’t you just a glorified tour guide, when you take groups on the mission trips?”  The answer is NO!  We have already seen well over 500 people trust Christ as their Saviour this summer, all of which will have the opportunity to be discipled by the local churches we work with.

Over the years that I have been involved in mission trips I have seen well over 25 new churches started as a result of a  mission trip!  Why don’t you come and take part in the fun!  See the back for a few more highlights of the trips so far this summer.

PRAISE!!   Iglesia Bíblica Bautista de Gracia: Bermejillo Durango  Pastor Angel Luna.  June 3rd marked the one year anniversary for this work.  There were over 120 present for the anniversary service.

There were 4 baptized in the month of June and at least 3 more candidates are planning on being baptized soon.  Brother Angel, Miss Sandra and Ivan have been faithful to teach the things they were taught in our Bible institute and the church is really starting to take off.

The foundations and floor for the building and parsonage were finished with the hard work of the 3 churches that came in June: Maranatha Baptist  Bethany, OK, Rose Hill Baptist DeQueen AR, and New Prospect Baptist, Lockesburg, AR.  (Thanks!)

The exterior walls for this church will be cement blocks.  We have estimated needing around 4000 blocks.  The cost will be approx. $1 per block.

Would you help us by purchasing 100 blocks? 500?   25?   250?   Any?  We want to have the walls up by fall, so any help would be greatly appreciated.  If you are willing to help please contact me.

PRAISE!!  Roca Fiel Baptist Church: Carlos Chavira.   This work continues to progress, not always as fast as we would like but we are moving forward.  There have been several baptized this summer.  We have seen growth among the members and a willingness to reach their neighbors and family members for the Lord.  The construction is nearly completed.  We have received $1700 towards the payment of the land and lack just over $4000.  The church is currently planning fundraisers to help pay off the debt.

PRAYER REQUESTS:   1) Pray for souls to be saved and for lives to be changed on the mission trips. 2) Pay off lot and finish construction in Carlos Chavira.  3) Construction of building in Durango. (4000 Blocks)  4) Gas saving vehicle for our family.  5) Wisdom, Power, and God’s Direction

Looking for that Blessed Hope and Glorious Appearing!

Highlights of June 2007 Mission Trips

1) San Jose, Durango – We were told not to expect much as this town was very Catholic but over 200 people came to the open air meeting.  Several climbed a tree for a better view.  Kelly led a lady to the Lord while on visitation. We played two games with the children (Hot Potato, David and Goliath)  Group did the puppet program, Sandra taught Muelita, Bro. Angel preached with power and there were over 100 professions of faith.  The people were very open to a Bible study and invited Angel back.  One family opened their home for a Bible study which was held 2 weeks later.

2) Sierritas, Durango – This was a small town maybe 25 houses in the town,  I would say between 75 – 100 were in attendance.   We played two games with the children   Group did the puppet program, Sandra taught Muelita, Bro. Angel preached with power and there were over 25 professions of faith.  After meeting Tim noticed the husband of the first lady baptized in Bermejillo and his teenaged helper in the back.  Tim went to talk with them and found out they just happened to stop in that town (yeah, right!) and saw us so they came over.  Tim wittnessed to the helper and Alejandro prayed to ask the Lord to save him.  Tim asked Calis (the husband) if he had ever received Christ and he said he had heard it but never actually received Christ but would like to.  He prayed and received Christ as well!  They have both been faithful in the services since that night.  There are several here open for discipleship lessons.

3) Mapimi, Durango – This is a very old mining town that is famous for the time the president Benito Juarez stayed there and for the time Pancho Villa and his men came through town during the revolution.  We only had about 15 miuntes to visit but still over 100 came to the program.  We played a couple games with the children, the group did the puppet program, Sandra taught Muelita, Bro. Angel preached with power and there were over 50 professions of faith.  Brother Angel has a desire to start a church here when the chuch in Bermejillo is better established.

4) San Nicolas, Durango – St. Nick (Christmas in July?) This is a very small pueblo way off the beaten path that we did not plan to visit, but God had other plans.  Brother Angel was leading us to Vicente Suarez and got way ahead of us due to the rough road.   We took a wrong turn and ended up here.  When we arrived it looked like the whole town was playing Volleyball or watching it being played.  We asked directions and they told us.  Before we left Brother Steve and some of the men from the group passed out tracts to everyone.  After we turned around to leave we noticed that nearly everyone was sitting reading the tracts.  We desire to go to this town on the next trip even though it is small – they need the gospel as well!

5) Vicente Suarez, Durango – This town was a long way off the paved road, and I’m sure that our arrival marked the first time anyone with the true gospel had ever preached in this town.  It looked like we were going to have to cancel as a huge dust storm was coming over the mountain, we prayed and God worked a miracle and divided the storm so it went around us.  We had a great open air meeting with well over 150 present.  There were over 100 professions of faith.  There was a Christian couple who invited us to their home and have a great desire to see a work started there.  Brother Angel told them they would try to come every 2 weeks or so for a Bible class.  Two of our Bible institute studets were really touched seeing this town and San Nicolas.  God impressed on their hearts the great need that exists in these areas.  They want to retun upon graduation to this area if it is the Lords will.

Wouldn’t you like to share a similar experience?  You can!  We schedule mission trips year round.  Why don’t you set aside a week this fall or next year and just do it.  I read a quote recently  “If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way; if you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.”  There will be no excuse when you stand before God.   How does the above compare to what you accomplishedon your summer vacation?

The night is coming, let’s do something for God ~ Before it’s too late!
